El Partido Demócrata de San Francisco ha acusado al candidato a la alcaldía, Mark Farrell, de utilizar indebidamente su logotipo en un folleto sobre la Propuesta D enviado a los votantes la semana pasada.
El correo en cuestión, de 20 por 30 centímetros, muestra de forma destacada una foto de Farrell y una cita de su apoyo a la Propuesta D, la medida para limitar las comisiones municipales, junto al logotipo del SF Dems en un círculo azul oscuro, muy similar al sello de apoyo del partido.
Aunque el partido ha respaldado la Proposición D, no ha respaldado a Farrell – ese honor fue para London Breed, quien obtuvo el único respaldo del partido.
De acuerdo con una carta del comité ejecutivo del partido, no autorizaron a Farrell para que utilice su logotipo en una Prop. D mailer, y el logotipo “podría confundir o inducir a un error a los votantes en cuanto a nuestro apoyo” para el alcalde.
La campaña de Farrell no está de acuerdo con la acusación. “Cualquiera puede ver claramente que el logotipo en el correo dice que el Partido apoyó Sí a la D”, dijo Jade Tu, director de campaña de Farrell, quien también es un miembro electo del Partido Demócrata local y se sienta junto a los miembros que escribieron la carta a Farrell.
“Como miembro del [Comité Central Demócrata del Condado], creo que nuestro partido debería centrarse en lograr el cambio para el que fuimos elegidos, en lugar de lanzar lodo en nombre de la alcaldesa Breed contra uno de sus oponentes políticos y compañero demócrata”, dijo Tu.
Nancy Tung, presidenta del comité ejecutivo del partido y autora de la carta, dijo que la inclusión del sello “diluye el valor de nuestro respaldo a las personas que realmente hemos respaldado”. En la carrera por la alcaldía, solo Breed puede utilizar el sello de apoyo de SF Dems, dijo.
El correo fue pagado por “Mark Farrell por el Sí a la Proposición D”, el comité creado por la campaña de Farrell en apoyo a la medida, que fue colocado en la boleta por el grupo de defensa política TogetherSF y reduciría cerca de 130 comisiones de la ciudad a 65, y ampliar los poderes del alcalde.
Según Tung, las campañas respaldadas por el partido han recibido el sello oficial para colocar en sus materiales, pero eso no incluye a los comités de votación controlados por los candidatos, como el de Farrell. “El comité controlado por su candidato no está autorizado a utilizar nuestro sello de apoyo”, dijo Tung.
Mission Local informó anteriormente que, según los abogados de tres opositores a la alcaldía, un correo anterior emitido por el comité de Farrell “violaba inequívocamente las leyes de campaña”. Una parte del correo, que supuestamente insta a los votantes a aprobar la Proposición D, mostraba una foto de Farrell promocionando sus logros no relacionados como alcalde interino en 2018.
El correo fue un problema porque el comité de Farrell no puede utilizar sus fondos para apoyar su carrera a la alcaldía.
Los oponentes de Farrell también lo han criticado por utilizar a su comité en la boleta electoral como un vehículo indirecto de recaudación de fondos para su propia campaña y por compartir una cantidad significativa de gastos entre las dos campañas. Aunque Farrell puede solicitar contribuciones de cualquier cantidad en apoyo de la Proposición D, está limitado a recibir contribuciones de $500 dólares para su campaña a la alcaldía.
Hasta la fecha, Farrell ha recaudado $2,133,028 en apoyo de la Proposición D, $127,942 de los cuales se utilizaron para cubrir los gastos compartidos por su comité de campaña.
Tung dijo que espera que esta carta sirva de advertencia no solo para Farrell, sino para cualquier otro candidato que el partido no haya respaldado. “Esperamos que en el futuro no haya más contratiempos”, dijo. “Eso está por verse”.

Nearly 100 still missing in North Carolina after Hurricane Helene
