Cyclist demands change after he was struck by wire strung across Milwaukee road by Orthodox Jewish group

A cyclist is demanding change after a wire strung across Lincoln Memorial Drive by an Orthodox Jewish group fell and struck him in the neck.Rabbi Yisroel Lein, of Chabad of the East Side, said the wire was repaired quickly, and he will abide by any changes Milwaukee County officials dictate about the placement of the wire. It is part of a miles-long perimeter of cables around Milwaukee's east side that Lein said is inspected weekly.The eruv, as the perimeter is called, eases Orthodox Jewish residents' Shabbat restrictions. It's a response to a Torah law that prohibits carrying items outside a private space such as a home on Saturdays. SF mayor, city attorney broke law by deleting texts, task force says

The Sunshine Ordinance Task Force, San Francisco’s oversight body responsible for public records and transparency laws, unanimously ruled on Wednesday night that Mayor London Breed and City Attorney David Chiu both violated city law by deleting text messages dealing with official business.The eight members of the task force in attendance — two were absent, one seat is vacant — also unanimously referred the mayor’s actions to the San Francisco Ethics Commission for investigation and possible discipline.“This seems like such an egregious practice,” said Dean Schmidt, an attorney and task force member. “This is a person who’s probably constantly sending messages around the city, and yet … none of them are making it to the public record. Alleged mugging suspects arrested after trying to hide in a jewelry store

Police detained a group of young men Tuesday at around 5 p.m. for allegedly assaulting and attempting to rob a pedestrian near Angie’s Jewelry Store at 2386 Mission St . near 20th Street. It’s unclear how many men were arrested, but it appeared to be around five men.  The victim was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries at around 6:30 p.m.The suspects allegedly assaulted the victim and then ran into the jewelry store, according to several businesses. A worker at the jewelry store said a couple of guys ran into his store. He thought they were customers until police surrounded the area and took the suspects into custody. At least four police SUVs were parked on Mission Street.
