Maria Su, head of SF Children’s Dept., picked to lead school district

The San Francisco Board of Education moments ago announced that Maria Su has agreed to take the role of superintendent for up to two years after outgoing superintendent Matt Wayne’s resignation was accepted today by a 6-1 vote. The sole dissenting vote, commissioner Kevine Boggess, felt Wayne deserved to be fired rather than resigning. Mission Local is told that Wayne will receive a year’s salary, some $325,000, and health care.Su has worked in San Francisco government for more than 18 years, with the last 15 of those coming as the head of the city’s Department of Children, Youth and their Families. Nima Momeni’s sister testifies her brother didn’t kill Bob Lee

A year and a half after Nima Momeni allegedly killed Cash App founder Bob Lee, Momeni’s sister, Khazar, broke her silence today and testified in court that he did no such thing. Khazar Momeni has been at the center of the ongoing murder case: Prosecutors claim Momeni stabbed Lee, angry over some inappropriate action between Lee and his sister on April 3, 2024, in the hours before Lee’s stabbing. Momeni’s defense team, meanwhile, says his sister was actually assaulted by her drug dealer, Jeremy Boivin. Israel Releases Video Said to Show Sinwar’s ‘Last Moments’

Drone footage released by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) shows a man they identify as Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar hurling a stick at the drone in what the IDF says were his “last moments” before being killed in southern Gaza on Wednesday, October 16.Sinwar was believed to have been the architect behind the Hamas-led attack on Israel on October 7 that prompted the conflict in Gaza.The IDF said Sinwar was killed in Rafah on Wednesday evening alongside two other Hamas members.
