SFPD arrests woman for allegedly defacing murals across city

Police officers from Ingleside Station arrested the alleged serial Mission Street mural vandal Tuesday night. She had been filmed by bystanders on Sunday defacing a mural on Mission Street by deceased muralist Mario Cid Gonzalez. Witnesses said they observed a woman matching the suspect’s description defacing that mural months prior as well.  Tuesday’s arrest of 33-year-old Ana Da Costa Pereira came after the defacing of more murals that night, including one on the side of the Excelsior District’s Central Drug Store at Mission and Santa Rosa streets. Da Costa Pereira was booked into the San Francisco County jail Tuesday night at 9:22 p.m. for vandalism of more than $400 and two counts of possession of graffiti instruments.Police said that Da Costa Pereira is responsible for multiple incidents of mural vandalism up and down Mission Street.  An email sent by police to […]

Mission hit-and-run driver makes U-turn, strikes woman, then flees

A woman appears to have escaped serious injury after being hit by a car on Shotwell and 21st streets at approximately 1 p.m. on Tuesday. The victim, a 21-year-old woman, was crossing Shotwell Street when another woman driving a gray Honda Accord hit her. The motorist was driving along 21st Street, made a wide U-turn at Shotwell, accelerated and ran into the victim, according to another driver who witnessed the incident and called the police. Three eyewitnesses separately told Mission Local that the driver intentionally rammed the pedestrian.  The motorist was traveling East on 21st St. when she made a U-turn at Shotwell St. The victim was crossing Shotwell St., heading East, when the car struck her. BART police release photo of man accused of stabbing woman on train

A man allegedly stabbed a 54-year-old woman on a BART train this morning as it approached 24th Street Mission station, sending her to the hospital with “serious injuries,” according to a statement from BART officials. BART police released a photo of the man, who they described as a “possible Asian male,” who was about 5-foot-8 and 160 pounds, with a mustache and black braided hair wrapped in a knot on top of his head. He wore a black jacket with an orange liner, a black shirt with a white logo, gray and black cargo pants, and dark colored boots. Suspect in anti-Black hate crimes is a Black woman, SFPD says

San Francisco police on Friday named a suspect in a series of racist incidents that targeted the home of a longtime Black Alamo Square resident and dog walker, Terry Williams, whose family had said they felt abandoned by the city in the aftermath of the alleged hate crimes.April Martin Chartrand, a 67-year-old Black city resident, left a series of racist packages at the home of beloved dog walker Williams, according to a communiqué sent by the police department today asking for the public’s help in locating the suspect.Williams said he got a call today about Chartrand from the police chief, and upon seeing her image realized she is a neighbor and also lives on Alamo Square. Black woman slammed into wall after SFPD jaywalking stop files legal claim against city

Christiana Porter, the 34-year-old Black woman who was shoved against a wall by a San Francisco police officer last month, has filed a claim against the city for injuries that left her with a concussion and a separated shoulder, her attorney Treva Stewart said in a press conference on Thursday.The city has 45 days to respond to the claim, which was filed Aug. 12 and alleges excessive force by SFPD officers, according to a press release from the San Francisco NAACP Youth Council. If the city rejects or fails to respond to the claim, Porter can then file a lawsuit.
