LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A Metro police sergeant was arrested and booked into jail Friday on charges related to arrests on the Las Vegas Strip, sources told the 8 News Now Investigators.
Sgt. Kevin Menon, 42, faces charges including oppression of color of office with force, subornation of perjury and battery on a protected person.
Sources with knowledge of the arrest said Menon is part of a larger investigation into allegations that Metro police officers bumped into tourists on the Las Vegas Strip, which prompted fights and the tourists’ arrests.
Menon joined the department in 2014. He spoke with 8 News Now during his graduation ceremony.
“This experience has been humbling,” he said. “It’s taught me more than I could ever imagine. “I feel ecstatic or electrified right now. It’s absolutely unbelievable.”
Specific details about what led to Menon’s arrest Friday remained unclear. The 8 News Now Investigators first learned of the allegations involving Menon several months ago.
The department placed Menon on leave with pay and his police powers suspended pending an investigation. He remained in custody at the Clark County Detention Center as of Friday evening on $27,000 bail.

Former Palm Beach County elections official dies while awaiting trial on child porn charges
A former information technology manager for the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Office facing trial on 2019 battery and child pornography charges has died, according to law-enforcement records.Jeffrey Darter died Aug. 19 at a residence in The Acreage, an incident report provided by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office showed. He was 66. The agency confirmed it is conducting a death investigation but did not disclose additional details, citing the active investigation. It redacted most of the report it provided.An attempt to reach Darter's attorney, Michael Salnick, was unsuccessful. 16-year-old Clovis Unified student killed in motorcycle crash
CLOVIS, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The Fresno County Coroner’s Office has officially identified the 16-year-old killed in a motorcycle crash in Fresno on Tuesday.The Coroner’s Office announced Wednesday that the teenager killed was Austin Ly.According to the Fresno Police Department, 16-year-old Austin Ly was the motorcyclist found in the road on Tuesday afternoon in the area of Tulare Avenue and Fowler Avenue in Fresno, not far from Fancher Creek Elementary School. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
