It is our responsibility to attempt to reach a resolution," said the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 751 in a social media post.Around 33,000 of Boeing's unionized West Coast workers, most in Washington state, have been on strike since Sept. 13, demanding a 40% wage increase spread over four years and halting production of the planemaker's best-selling 737 MAX and its 767 and 777 widebodies. The talks are the first sign of movement in the more than one-month-old strike since Boeing on Oct. 8 withdrew its latest offer that included a 30% wage increase over four years, after […]

Hamas leader Sinwar made ‘critical mistake’ moments before he was killed

Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was killed moments after making a “critical mistake”, according to Israel. The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) described the 61-year-old’s final minutes in a briefing on Thursday and stressed the strategic error that the Oct 7 mastermind made by leaving the Gaza tunnel network where he had been hiding. The IDF forced him to “make this mistake” and “move like a fugitive” as they gradually closed off streets and blew up tunnels around Rafah in southern Gaza, Major Doron Spielman explained.“In fact, just yesterday he did so [made a mistake]. He left the tunnel, went into an apartment building, and [Hamas] opened fire on Israeli troops. A tank returned fire, and he was killed in that attack,” said Maj Spielman. The IDF claimed its troops restricted his movement to a “smaller and smaller area” as they advanced.Maj Spielman added that […]

Has Elon Musk just started a new war on women by binning the block button?

Are women still welcome on Twitter/X? I ask because the latest move by the social media platform’s owner Elon Musk would suggest otherwise. In all his wisdom, the amphibian-faced Silicon Valley bro is removing the ability to fully block other users. Which has all the hallmarks of a decision taken in an echo chamber with fewer X chromosomes than its name would suggest. The rolling-back of the tool will, in Musk’s words, mean the “block function will block that account from engaging with, but not block seeing, public posts”. In other words, you’ll no longer be able to stop anyone from viewing what you share, even if they can’t directly reply to it.Oh well, that’s OK then. Why worry about tiny inconvenient details such as whom the ability to block actually helps and which of your users might be actively harmed by […]

MOSCOW (Reuters) - The Kremlin suggested on Wednesday that many European countries were starting to face difficulties when it came to mobilising their military-industrial industries to help Ukraine.Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov was responding to a question about the French and German arms industries, but he did not name any European countries himself or say how or why they were allegedly struggling to help Ukraine.French President Emmanuel Macron said last week that work continued regarding military supplies for Ukraine while German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced a 1.4 billion euro ($1.53 billion) military aid package for Kyiv by the end of 2024.Peskov suggested there were problems though."This mobilisation of capabilities for ephemeral goals is contrary to the interests of the economic development of these countries, and clearly the capacities of these countries are not designed for such efforts," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov […]
