Suspect in South Shore stabbing spree asked officers to shoot him during arrest, prosecutor says

The man accused in a stabbing spree on the South Shore was arraigned on serious charges Friday.

26-year-old, Jared Ravizza, is facing assault to murder and assault and battery charges for allegedly stabbing two McDonald’s employees at a rest stop on Route 3 in Plymouth back in May. Ravizza will be arraigned in Plymouth District Court

Ravizza is also accused of stabbing four young girls at a Braintree movie theatre that very same day. He is facing the same charges for that incident.

All of the victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

During the arraignment, a prosecutor said the day started with a bloody scene at the Connecticut apartment Ravizza shared with a 70-year-old roommate. Police entered the apartment and followed a trail of blood to find the corpses of two large poodles, each stabbed multiple times, one of them nearly decapitated.

Ravizza’s roommate was found with stab wounds to his chest, neck and back.

The prosecutor said Ring camera footage captured the victim pleading for his life just before Ravizza stabbed him in the face.

Ravizza then allegedly drove north and through Massachusetts, where entered the AMC Braintree 10 around 6:00 p.m., walked past the ticket counter, and entered one of the theaters. Inside the auditorium, “without saying anything and without warning” he allegedly stabbed and attacked three sisters and their friend, ranging in age from 9 years old to 17 years old.

Ravizza was allegedly heard laughing in the cinema.

About an hour later, Ravizza drove to the McDonalds on Route 3 in Plymouth, where a customer saw him urinating in the parking lot. She confronted him and he made an obscene gesture at her.

Ravizza then ordered food in the drive-thru line. After asking the worker to double-check the order, Ravizza allegedly got halfway out of the Porche he was driving and stabbed the worker, a 28-year-old male. Ravizza then allegedly parked his black Porsche, went inside, and stabbed a second employee, a 21-year-old woman, twice in the arm before driving away from the plaza.

The woman who earlier confronted Ravizza in the lot called 911 and followed him on Route 3 until MSP got involved. Ravizza crashed his vehicle in Sandwich around 7:15 p.m. He was taken into custody shortly thereafter.

Before being taken into custody, the prosecutor said Ravizza begged police to shoot him.

“Just do it,” he allegedly said. This was recorded on body cam, according to the prosecutor.

Ravizza’s lawyer is exploring a mental health defense.

Jared Ravizza pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Ravizza is also accused of assaulting his father on Martha’s Vineyard, weeks before prosecutors allege he went on the stabbing spree on the South Shore. In April, police charged Ravizza with assault and battery on a family/household member and vandalizing property, according to a criminal complaint filed by West Tisbury police in Edgartown District Court on April 16.

At a dangerousness hearing in July, Plymouth District Court Judge Julie Bernard found Ravizza dangerous, and he was held without bail.

Ravizza will next appear in court in November.
